Tuned Toyota Century Version by Tom’s Racing
The Japanese Toyota Century sedan, known for its elegance and status, has received special attention from the renowned atelier Tom’s Racing. The company presented an updated version of its modification, which combines luxury chic with elements of a sporty character.
The project, first shown in 2020, has undergone refinements and now looks more sophisticated. The car received a number of external and internal updates that emphasize its individuality without losing the model’s majestic spirit.
Exterior and Design
The car’s exterior is complemented by sporty accents. These include new front and rear bumpers, side skirts, and a small spoiler on the trunk lid. The style’s signature became the Tom’s Barrel Exhaust pipes, executed in a quad configuration.
One of the key elements is the Tom’s Barrel Exhaust system with four tips.
Instead of the large-diameter wheels from the concept, production cars are equipped with forged-type BBS RZ-D alloy wheels. They are available in 18, 19, or 20-inch diameters and are made of a zinc-magnesium alloy. Color solutions — diamond black, silvery, or glossy black — are chosen to harmonize with the Century’s character.
Luxury and Comfort in the Cabin
The car’s interior is transformed through the use of the finest materials. The seats, door cards, and armrests are upholstered in quilted Nappa leather, available in black or white.
Vehicle Selection and Conversion Process
Tom’s Racing emphasizes that only used Century cars in excellent condition, without structural damage or past repairs, are selected for conversion.
Each donor car is carefully selected — it is a used Century without structural damage or previous repairs.
After an initial inspection at the Gotemba facilities, worn components are either cleaned or replaced. The final stage is a re-inspection at a Toyota dealer, which allows the new owner to retain the remainder of the original factory warranty.
Technical Specifications and Price
Under the hood remains the standard hybrid powertrain — a 5.0-liter V8. Its total power is 425 hp, and torque is 510 Nm. The suspension and braking system have not been changed, guaranteeing the preservation of the characteristic Century ride smoothness and braking efficiency.
The full conversion of the car to the Tom’s Edition costs approximately 30.2 million yen (about $194,000). For owners of a standard Century who wish to update their car, the modification package is priced at 9.57 million yen (about $61,500).
The atelier also offers several already completed modified used cars. For example, a 2018 model with 27,100 km mileage is priced at 24.1 million yen, and a 2020 car with 13,000 km — at 25.5 million yen.
Interestingly, Toyota recently updated the standard Century for the Japanese market, raising its starting price for the 2026 model year to approximately 23 million yen. Thus, the exclusivity from Tom’s Racing is valued at a significant premium, making these cars a coveted item for true collectors and connoisseurs of unique Japanese luxury sedans.
This project demonstrates how classic Japanese luxury can be adapted to more individualistic tastes without losing the essence of the car. Tom’s Racing’s approach is not a radical overhaul, but rather a subtle customization that reveals new facets of the iconic model. Given the limited quantity and meticulous execution, such cars are likely to become investment objects, retaining their value over time.
