American Off-Roader Unavailable in the U.S. Becomes Second Best-Seller in Italy

Success of the Jeep Avenger in Italy

The launch of the compact and rugged Jeep Avenger off-roader, designed specifically for the European market, has proven to be a very successful move. Demand for this model is so high that it raises the question of whether the Stellantis conglomerate made a mistake by not offering it in more markets.

As of mid-2025, Jeep has already confirmed over 200,000 orders for the Avenger, with particular affection for it shown in Italy. The latest sales data from Stellantis shows that the Avenger finished February as the second most popular new car in the country, surpassed only by the Fiat Pandina.

In February alone, 5,893 new Avengers found new owners in Italy, giving the compact off-roader a solid 3.7% share of the new car market. This, however, is significantly less than the Pandina, which achieved 12,612 sales and an 8% share. Despite this, the Avenger surpassed in popularity such beloved cars as the Fiat Grande Panda (5,500 sales) and the Leapmotor T03 (4,776 sales).

Stellantis’s Market Leadership

If you look more closely, you can see an interesting pattern: the four best-selling cars in Italy in February belonged to the Stellantis conglomerate, if Leapmotor is included in this list.

The strong appeal of the Avenger in Italy was not a one-month fluke. Both in 2024 and 2025, the Jeep Avenger was the best-selling off-roader in the country. In 2025, it captured over 5.5% of the entire SUV market and had an 11% share in the B-segment off-roaders.

Why is it so popular?

Undoubtedly, a key reason for the Avenger’s popularity is that it is compact enough for historic European streets, yet retains the same rugged character associated with Jeep. Furthermore, buyers are offered a wide choice of powertrains that covers almost any preference.

In addition to the version with a simple 1.2-liter gasoline engine and manual transmission, buyers can opt for a 48-volt mild hybrid that combines the same 1.2-liter engine with a 28-horsepower electric motor. Jeep also offers the Avenger with all-wheel drive and a 4xe hybrid system. And for those who prefer almost silent driving, a fully electric model is available.

The success of the Avenger in Europe, especially in Italy, which is traditionally a strong bastion for local manufacturers, indicates the successful adaptation of the American brand to regional specifics. The model successfully combines Jeep’s heritage with modern European demands for environmental friendliness and compactness. This case could serve as an example for other global automakers on how to win loyalty in markets with specific needs without losing their identity. The demand for diverse powertrains, from conventional internal combustion engines to electric vehicles, underscores the importance of flexibility in the modern automotive business.
