Someone Created the Jeep Renegade That Stellantis Never Released

The Return of a Legendary Engine

The legendary Hemi V8 engine is making a triumphant return. After a series of strategic mistakes and a reassessment of near-term demand for electric vehicles, the Stellantis conglomerate is ramping up production of these engines, expanding their availability to more models, and once again betting on what many buyers still want — raw, unbridled American power.

An Unusual Project on YouTube

Against this backdrop, it’s the perfect time to recall one of the most interesting projects related to the Hemi engine that can be seen on YouTube. We first wrote about this Jeep Renegade with a Hemi engine back in 2022. Since then, the project has continued to evolve, and now this unusual car is fully road-ready.

If you considered the Renegade an unremarkable compact crossover, this particular specimen might make you change your mind.

Five Years of Work in the Garage

Mike Martin, the author of this project, began work at the end of 2020. The goal was simple in theory but a bit crazy in practice: to create a Jeep Renegade like no other. To do this, he purchased a 2016 Dodge Charger R/T as a donor and somehow managed to squeeze its 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine under the hood of the miniature Jeep.

Endless Modifications

As one might expect, installing the 5.7-liter V8 from a Charger into a Renegade is not a simple swap. Martin had to graft parts of the floor and firewall from the Charger into the Jeep’s structure just to find space for the powertrain.

The electrical part proved no less complex, requiring a complete overhaul of the car’s wiring for everything to function properly. The result is a Renegade that operates with the same reliability as if Jeep had actually ever released a V8 version.

Detailed Documentation and Refinement

Over the past five years, Martin has published nearly 50 videos documenting the Renegade’s transformation, vividly demonstrating the sheer scale of this project. Simply dropping in the Hemi and considering the job done was never the plan.

The Jeep is now equipped with Hellcat brakes, an air suspension system, a heavily reworked exterior, and an interior filled with updates — from practical to over-the-top.

In fact, the car features a custom-built roll cage and an audio system assembled in the garage. It even has a Rolls-Royce-style starlight headliner and a full-fledged air conditioning system. Where there’s a will, there’s a way, and this YouTuber has proven it.

Projects like this remind us that car culture stays alive precisely thanks to enthusiasts willing to invest years of time and effort into realizing seemingly impossible ideas. They are not just modifying metal; they are creating unique stories that inspire others. The return of the Hemi to Stellantis’ production line only amplifies this trend, showing that the demand for emotion and character in a car is still very high, despite the general shift towards electrification.
