Viral Video of Failed Attempt to Take Car Back from Tow Truck
The internet loves the “You can’t park here, mate” meme. However, in real life, vehicle towing services are much less inclined to joke. Residents of one residential complex learned this from their own experience, where a routine tow quickly turned into chaos, captured on video that is now spreading on social networks, including Reddit.
The tow truck driver had already hooked up a car resembling a Hyundai Palisade, which was parked in a prohibited area. Everything was proceeding legally. But then the owner appeared, got into his SUV, and turned an already awkward situation into a catastrophic one.
Attempt at Forceful Resolution Instead of Negotiations
By all indications, this was not a repossession for debt. It was specifically about a parking violation, which means the owner likely had a chance to negotiate a fine and the release of the vehicle on the spot. If he had waited for the car to be delivered to the impound lot, he could have redeemed it immediately. However, instead, he or another person associated with him got behind the wheel. And then the situation literally went “sideways.”
Video from two different angles shows the moment when the Hyundai driver put the car in reverse and sharply hit the gas. The left front wheel easily pushed aside the tow truck’s hook, but the right front wheel got stuck. As a result, the SUV began tilting to the left.
By the time the right wheel slipped off the platform, inertia had already taken over. For a very brief moment, the Palisade and its fate hung in the air, but eventually, the car fell onto its left side.

Reaction of the Tow Truck Driver and Police
Interestingly, the tow truck driver reportedly filmed the unfolding situation himself. In the video published online (though later deleted), viewers got a “front-row seat” view of the crash and part of the dispute that ensued.
According to the description of events, police arrived on the scene and informed the owner that if the car was already secured on the tow truck, removing it on their own is illegal. It’s hard to say exactly how it all ended, but the lesson remains obvious. Attempting to forcibly remove a car from a tow truck is a much more complicated and risky affair than simply parking where it’s allowed in the first place.

Similar incidents that go viral often share the same nature – an attempt to avoid the negative consequences of one’s actions leads to significantly greater damage and problems. In this case, the owner, trying to avoid a fine and towing costs, likely incurred serious financial losses due to vehicle damage, as well as legal consequences for his actions. This is a reminder that even in stressful situations, the best way out is often to follow the rules and resolve conflicts calmly through legal procedures, not emotional impulsive acts.
