Problematic Renault Electric Crossover Gets a New Chance

Renault Prepares an Updated Electric Megane E-Tech

Renault is conducting road tests of an updated version of its Megane E-Tech electric crossover, with a facelift planned for next year. The first spy photos show that the car’s exterior has undergone changes.

Among the key expected innovations:

Design Evolution and Technical Expectations

Four years have passed since the electric Megane debuted. During this time, new SUVs like the Symbioz and Scenic E-Tech have appeared in Renault’s lineup. Updating the Megane E-Tech could bring it visually closer to these newer models while maintaining the overall body shape.

Despite the fact that the current Megane E-Tech has not become a market bestseller, Renault is not giving up and is preparing an update for it.

The prototype is quite heavily camouflaged, but noticeable changes in the optics are visible. The shape of the main headlights remains similar, but the LED daytime running lights look different. Changes have also affected the rear, where new rear lights are installed.

Battery and Platform Questions

One of the main questions remains the technical equipment of the updated crossover. Currently, the Megane E-Tech is offered with 40 kWh and 60 kWh batteries, which is considered a modest figure for a car of this class.

For comparison, the larger Scenic E-Tech is equipped with a significantly more powerful 87 kWh battery, which already meets modern expectations.

Both cars are built on the same AmpR Medium architecture (formerly known as CMF-EV), which is also used, for example, by the Nissan Ariya. This platform allows for the installation of high-capacity batteries, so there is a technical possibility for Renault to equip the Megane E-Tech with a more powerful battery.

Recent reports indicate that the company may receive new batteries from supplier AESC, production of which will be established in France. This should significantly increase the car’s range, which is currently a maximum of 454 km.

A potential battery update is a logical step to increase the model’s competitiveness. The electric SUV market is constantly growing, and customers are paying more and more attention to range. If Renault can offer the Megane E-Tech with a battery capacity close to that of the Scenic, it could become a significant argument in favor of the model, combining compact dimensions with the characteristics of larger cars. The success of the update will also depend on the final pricing policy and how much the changes affect the interior and multimedia system, which remain key factors in choice today.
