Lexus is preparing an update for its second most popular model in the lineup

First photos of the updated Lexus NX

Spies have managed to take the first photographs of the updated Lexus NX crossover, which is preparing for a facelift. In the shots, prototypes are undergoing testing on the Nürburgring track.

The main focus of the update falls on the front part of the car. It received a new, more aggressive spindle-shaped radiator grille with two horizontal crossbars in the lower part. The model was also equipped with LED headlights with two light strips that function as daytime running lights and turn signals.

New design details

New triangular air intakes appeared under the headlights, giving the crossover a sportier look. Their presence may indicate that this is a prototype of the F Sport version, although for now this is just an assumption. The look is completed by a new front bumper with a rounded lower edge.

The compact crossover showcases a new and more aggressive front end.

The side view of the car seems to have remained unchanged, but updated wheel designs can be expected. The rear is also likely hiding some minor changes under the camouflage.

Expected interior and safety system changes

Photographers were unable to peek inside, but the updated NX may follow in the footsteps of the ES model and receive a new steering wheel with the word “LEXUS” instead of the traditional “L” logo. The model may also be equipped with the new Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 driver assistance complex, which will be an improvement over the current 3.0 version.

Possible technical updates

Details regarding powertrains remain unknown. Currently, the model offers several options: a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine producing 275 hp, a hybrid setup based on a 2.5-liter engine with a total output of 240 hp, as well as a plug-in hybrid with a 2.5-liter engine, electric motors, and an 18.1 kWh battery, providing 304 hp and about 60 kilometers of range on electricity alone.

A facelift for the model, introduced in 2021, is a logical step to maintain competitiveness in the compact premium crossover market. Design changes, especially to the front end, allow the car to look more modern without deep technical revisions. Updates to safety systems and possible interior changes align with the general trend of the Lexus brand towards constant improvement. For now, all details are based on observations of camouflaged prototypes, so precise information about the updates and the premiere date can only be obtained from the company’s official sources.
