by Updated Land Rover Defender: First Details of the Facelift
Land Rover is preparing an updated version of its Defender SUV. Although the model debuted back in 2019 and has since received various additions, the manufacturer has now decided to carry out a full update of the exterior and equipment.
Exterior Changes
A camouflaged prototype was spotted during test trials. Despite heavy masking, the updated front end can be discerned. The vehicle has received larger fog lights and a new bumper with wider lower air intakes.
The radiator grille has also noticeably changed — it has become larger and features a mesh structure. It appears that the Defender will lose the narrow air intake located in the center.

Rear End and Aerodynamics
The changes at the rear are less noticeable, but they are present. The rear bumper has a slightly different shape, and the reflectors are now positioned higher. In addition, the bumper protrudes less than on the current version.
A new spoiler has appeared on the roof, integrated into the structure. This is intended to improve the vehicle’s aerodynamic characteristics, which, due to its shape, cannot boast low air resistance.
New Four-Seat Interior
The interior of the prototype has hardly changed, but there is one important detail. The rear bench seat has been replaced with two separate captain’s chairs. Previously, this layout was offered only for the Defender 130 version, but now it will likely become available for other modifications, including the Defender 110.
Possible Engine Updates
It is not yet known whether the updated Defender will receive new powertrains. Currently, the model is offered with various engines:
It is quite likely that Land Rover will abandon the outdated 5.0-liter V8 in favor of the biturbo 4.4-liter engine with around 523 hp.
The Defender update is expected to make the model more modern and competitive in the premium SUV market. The changes in aerodynamics and interior indicate that the manufacturer aims not only to preserve off-road qualities but also to enhance comfort and efficiency. The abandonment of outdated engines in favor of newer and more powerful units is also a logical step within the global strategy of updating the model range. Thus, the facelifted Defender has every chance of remaining one of the most desirable SUVs in its segment.
