Hongqi Guoya: Chinese luxury sedan for Russian oligarchs
Despite Russia ramping up production of its own cars, it continues to import thousands of new vehicles from China. The latest novelty is the Hongqi Guoya — a flagship sedan from FAW Group, which previously focused exclusively on producing cars for high-ranking officials.
Hongqi, which translates to “Red Flag” in English, is one of the oldest Chinese automotive brands. However, in recent years it has faced growing competition from new players. The company has decided to export its flagship Guoya sedan to Russia, and for oligarchs seeking maximum luxury, this car could be an ideal choice.
Price and versions
In the Russian market, the Guoya will be offered in two versions. The base model is called Elegance V6 and costs from 27.7 million Russian rubles (about $389,000 USD). The top-of-the-line Imperial V8 version starts at 31.7 million rubles (approximately $445,000). This is very serious money, especially considering that in China prices for this model start from 1.4 million yuan, or about $207,000.
Technical specifications
As the name suggests, the Elegance V6 is equipped with a 3.0-liter turbocharged hybrid V6 engine, producing a total of 380 horsepower and 570 Nm of torque. It works in conjunction with an eight-speed automatic transmission. For Russian millionaires and billionaires seeking maximum performance, the Imperial V8 will be the obvious choice. This version features a 4.0-liter turbocharged hybrid V8 with 476 horsepower and 680 Nm of torque, allowing the car to accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. Both versions come with all-wheel drive.
Design and luxury
It appears that no significant changes were made for the export version to Russia. The exterior remains unchanged, so the car continues to feature plenty of chrome elements, including a massive front grille.
The interior looks extremely luxurious. In the second row, there are two large captain’s chairs with heating, ventilation, and massage functions, as well as reclining backrests. The Guoya also features a 32-speaker audio system, a panoramic roof, and an abundance of high-quality leather and Alcantara.

Interestingly, the price of the Hongqi Guoya in Russia is almost double that in China, making it one of the most expensive Chinese cars on the Russian market. Despite the lack of updates for the Russian market, the brand is banking on exclusivity and luxury, which may appeal to wealthy buyers seeking an alternative to European luxury brands. This also indicates that Chinese automakers are increasingly trying to occupy the premium niche in markets where traditional players have left or limited their presence.
