Rebirth of a Legend: Classic Recreations Returns with a Carbon Fiber Mustang
Classic Recreations, a company specializing in restomods, nearly disappeared forever. At the end of last year, it was saved from bankruptcy by Velocity Restorations, giving it a second life thanks to a key licensing agreement with Shelby. Now the firm is once again upgrading classic Ford Mustangs, and here is the first result.
Carbon Revolution: Exterior and Details
At the heart of this car lies a 1967-68 Shelby GT500, but Classic Recreations has reworked practically every element. The most obvious change is a full carbon fiber body. If done poorly, exposed carbon can look cheap, but on this Mustang, the pattern is executed perfectly and looks remarkably elegant, at least in the photos.
Although all panels are made of carbon fiber, the overall design is somewhat restrained thanks to black racing stripes running along the hood, roof, and rear. As for color, this GT500 CR is virtually devoid of anything that is not black or exposed carbon.
The wheels are also special—they feature carbon fiber rims and black-silver spokes. Black Wilwood brake calipers are mounted in front.
Interior and Audio System
The Mustang’s interior has also undergone a complete overhaul. In addition to modern sound insulation, it features new Focal speakers, a modern infotainment system, and redesigned seats upholstered in black leather with contrasting red stitching. Everything looks very appealing.
Power and Price
Classic Recreations does not disclose which engine the owner of this GT500 CR chose. The company offers three different versions, all based on the Ford Coyote 5.0-liter V8. Power ranges from 500 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque in the naturally aspirated version to 700 hp and 900 hp in the supercharged versions.
As for pricing, the most basic GT500 CR starts at $549,900, and one of the 900-hp models starts at $724,900.
It is worth noting that the revival of Classic Recreations after bankruptcy is a telling example of how licensing agreements and strategic partnerships can save even the most experienced players in the restomod market. The Shelby GT500 CR is not just another tuning project, but a symbol of the company’s return, betting on exclusivity and maximum quality. Given the price, which reaches nearly three-quarters of a million dollars, this car is aimed at a narrow circle of collectors for whom not only technical specifications matter, but also the brand’s history and the uniqueness of every detail. The carbon fiber body and power of up to 900 hp make it one of the brightest representatives of the modern restomod movement, where classic design meets advanced technology.
