New 2027 Chevrolet Silverado: Two new V8s and a technological breakthrough
Chevrolet has officially unveiled the new generation of the 2027 Silverado 1500 pickup. While the basic concept of the vehicle remains unchanged, the updates touch nearly all key aspects. From new V8 engines and a redesigned exterior to a significantly upgraded interior and an expanded lineup of off-road versions — Chevrolet positions the new Silverado as the most technologically advanced and powerful pickup in its class.
New V8 engines: A return to roots
The most notable feature is that Chevrolet is betting on V8 engines. All-new 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter naturally aspirated engines will complement the updated 2.7-liter four-cylinder TurboMax and the familiar 3.0-liter Duramax diesel. According to Chevrolet, the new 6.6-liter engine delivers the best-in-class performance among naturally aspirated V8s for light-duty pickups, although final horsepower and torque figures have not yet been released.
“We put these engines through a thorough testing and validation process to ensure they deliver the durability, power, and reliability that Silverado owners expect,” said Mark Dickens, executive chief engineer. “From challenging towing scenarios to the daily demands our customers place on their trucks, these next-generation V8 engines have been designed and tested for real-world operation.”
Design and lineup: Evolution over revolution
These engines are even more notable because, on the outside, the new Silverado is more of an evolution than a revolution. The front end has become slightly more vertical, the vehicle features new LED lighting, larger wheel arches, and different trim levels will have different grille designs.
“The goal of the new Silverado was to create a truck that looks stronger, more modern, and has a commanding presence at first glance, while remaining true to the authentic truck character that customers expect from Chevrolet,” said Phil Zack, global executive director of Chevrolet design.
Chevrolet has also simplified the lineup. The LT trim disappears, replaced by simply “Silverado,” while the model range now consists of Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, Silverado, Trail Boss, ZR2, and High Country.
Interior updates: A technological leap
This is where the most noticeable changes occur for those interested in the Silverado. A massive 16.3-inch infotainment display and a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster are now standard regardless of trim level. Higher-end ZR2 and High Country trims add an 11.5-inch passenger display, a head-up display, and a digital rearview mirror.
The Silverado also gets dual wireless charging pads, a redesigned Multi-Flex center console, and expanded connectivity features across the lineup. Chevrolet’s Super Cruise system remains available and continues to offer hands-free towing capability, which the company says remains a unique feature in the segment.
ZR2: Even more off-road capability
Chevrolet calls the new Silverado ZR2 the most powerful version in its history. These are strong words, and serious updates are provided to back them up. The vehicle is equipped with 35-inch off-road tires, features a two-inch lift, front and rear electronic locking differentials, and continues to use Multimatic DSSV dampers. The truck also gets a more aggressive hood design and unique off-road styling elements.

For buyers who think this is not enough, the ZR2 Bison version returns with bumpers designed by American Expedition Vehicles, additional underbody protection, beadlock-ready wheels, and additional off-road equipment. Meanwhile, the Trail Boss and Custom Trail Boss continue to serve as more affordable off-road alternatives, both receiving 34-inch tires and a factory two-inch lift.

At the other end of the lineup is the High Country, which emphasizes luxury. It gets 22-inch wheels, upgraded interior materials, and a panoramic roof. Interior materials include real wood trim, soft-touch microfiber surfaces, unique color schemes, and seat belts with brown edging.
Final technical specifications, towing ratings, payload capacities, and pricing will be announced closer to the start of sales. Production of the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will take place at GM’s North American truck plants, and sales are expected to begin by the end of the year.
Interestingly, unlike many competitors that are actively shifting to turbo engines and hybrid powertrains, Chevrolet is betting on traditional naturally aspirated V8s. This could be a strategic move aimed at attracting conservative buyers who value time-tested reliability and the characteristic V8 sound and power. At the same time, the significant interior update with large displays and technologies such as Super Cruise demonstrates Chevrolet’s desire to keep up with modern trends. The expansion of the off-road lineup, especially with 35-inch tires on the ZR2, signals the company’s intention to compete with models like the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram 1500 TRX, offering buyers even more extreme off-road capabilities.
