New track-focused Toyota GR GT spotted at the Nürburgring
When Toyota first introduced the GR GT, the company showed two versions of the supercar standing side by side: one for public roads and another for the track. Fresh spy photos now indicate the emergence of a third variant, which will sit between them, and it looks the most interesting of all.
More details: Toyota GR GT isn’t even on sale yet, and the internet is already tuning it
Our photographers captured a camouflaged prototype of the updated GR GT lapping the Nürburgring. The car featured a special aerodynamic package and shared the track with a Porsche 911 GT3 RS, which was used as a benchmark. This almost confirms that Toyota aims to create a track machine suitable for public roads.
Differences from the standard version
Differences compared to the standard GR GT include a sharper splitter, canards, vented fenders, and a fixed rear wing. This wing is smaller than the one on the race-spec GT3, but still high enough to draw attention among ordinary supercars in a parking lot.
You can distinguish this version from a full-fledged race car with just one glance at the details. The track-focused GR GT3 features side exhaust pipes, Lexan windows, a modified hood, racing tires, and a completely redesigned rear bumper — none of these details have carried over to this prototype.
Toyota has not yet announced whether these carbon fiber components will reach buyers as an optional aerodynamic package for the standard GR GT, or whether they will be installed on a more extreme limited-edition series. Both paths remain open.
Competition with Porsche and Mercedes
If Gazoo Racing wants to offer a competitor to models like the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, it will likely combine the new aerodynamics with stiffer suspension tuning. Also in play could be a hotter version of the hybrid twin-turbo V8, exceeding the 641 hp (478 kW / 650 PS) produced by the current powertrain.

More details about the hardcore GR GT are expected in the coming months. The standard model will hit the market in 2027, and the GR GT3 will debut in competition shortly after at the FIA World Endurance Championship.
This prototype shows that Toyota is serious about creating not just another supercar, but a true track tool capable of competing with the best examples from Porsche and Mercedes. The emergence of a third, intermediate version that combines an aggressive aerodynamic body kit with road legality is a logical step to meet the needs of the most discerning enthusiasts who want to get the maximum from their car both on the track and on ordinary roads. The choice of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS as a benchmark at the Nürburgring clearly indicates Toyota’s ambition to become a leader in the segment of street-legal track cars.
