by New AMG GT Black Series: Extreme Road Sports Car
Only six Mercedes-AMG models have ever received the radical Black Series treatment. The first such series appeared in 2006 based on the SLK 55 AMG, and the latest model came out in 2021 – the first generation AMG GT. Now a new project is in the works.
Built on the second-generation AMG GT, the new Black Series was revealed several months ago. Since then, it has been spotted lapping the Nürburgring alongside its GT3 race car ‘brother’. The heavily camouflaged prototype of this track weapon was recently filmed in Spain – on open roads it looks even wilder.

Like the current Porsche 911 GT3 RS, the new AMG GT Black Series will look more like a race car than something you can legally drive on the streets. Mercedes will undoubtedly try to set an impressive lap time at the Nürburgring, though it is unlikely to beat the AMG One’s record (6:29.09). However, it should be faster than the previous AMG GT Black Series with its 6:48.04.
Fearsome Aerodynamics
The radical aerodynamic body kit immediately distinguishes the car from the standard version. Up front, there are larger radiator grilles, a splitter, canards, and a unique hood with a large air intake and dozens of tiny openings to improve heat dissipation.
While the front is already striking, the real breakthroughs are on the sides and rear. The car features thick new side sills, side-exit exhaust pipes, and large vents directly behind the front wheels – all for better airflow management.
Baldauf
The rear end gets a ‘swan neck’ wing, no less radical than that of the GT3 RS, but possibly mounted even higher. A massive diffuser is also present. Lap times should be impressive, but even all this aerodynamics didn’t prevent the prototype from getting stuck behind a slow cyclist on this winding mountain road.
Power Output
Changes continue under the hood. Most likely, a new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft will be used, which currently produces 612 hp and 850 Nm in the GT 63 Pro, or 816 hp and 1420 Nm in the hybrid GT 63 S E Performance. Given AMG’s obsession with weight reduction, the Black Series is unlikely to go the hybrid route.
The new AMG GT Black Series promises to be a true pinnacle of engineering for track-focused road cars. Its aggressive design and powerful engine, combined with a lightweight construction, should deliver outstanding dynamics. However, even such a machine is not immune to road incidents – at least on ordinary mountain roads it has to obey traffic rules.
