How a pink Porsche caught the patrol’s attention
The Porsche 911 has for decades been considered a restrained, one might even say inconspicuous supercar. However, a bright pink 911 in the signature color Ruby Star has nothing to do with inconspicuousness. Such a car is definitely not one that blends into traffic, especially when, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, it is moving at a speed more than twice the limit. On Sunday in Fort Myers, Florida, that combination led to an arrest and a towed car.
What is known about the arrest
According to deputies, they were conducting speed enforcement on Three Oaks Parkway when they spotted a pink Porsche traveling at 96 mph (154 km/h) in a 45 mph (72 km/h) zone. The driver was identified as Jennifer Delisi. She was arrested and charged with dangerous excessive speeding.
What Florida law provides
These numbers matter more in Florida than they might elsewhere. The state’s relatively new law on dangerous excessive speeding applies when a driver exceeds the posted limit by 50 mph (80 km/h) or more. According to investigators, Delisi was 51 mph (82 km/h) over the limit, crossing the threshold by just one mile per hour. That means the offense is not limited to an ordinary fine. For a first conviction, a so-called super speedster faces up to 30 days in jail, a $500 fine, or both. A second conviction can lead to 90 days in jail, a $1,000 fine, or both.
The driver admitted fault
According to deputies, Delisi did not try to blame the car. During the conversation with the officer, she said:
“I wasn’t trying to do anything. Sorry. This is 100 percent my fault. I take full responsibility.”
The Sheriff’s Office said the woman was taken to Lee County Jail and the Porsche was towed from the scene. Law enforcement also played up the visual side of the stop on their Facebook page, writing:
“A pink Porsche is hard to miss… especially when it’s going 96 miles per hour.”
Why this is not just about the color
That is certainly true, but the color is not the main thing here. A speed of 96 mph on a road with a 45 mph limit leaves too little room for error for other road users – whether changing lanes, turning into traffic, or simply heading home. The Porsche truly was impossible to miss, but if the speed had been even two miles per hour lower, this could have ended not with an arrest but with an ordinary fine.
What this means for other drivers
This story shows that even the most noticeable car gives no immunity from responsibility. A bright color may attract an officer’s attention, but the key factor is speed. Exceeding the limit by more than 50 mph turns an ordinary violation into a criminal case, and Florida law is aimed precisely at removing from the roads drivers who create deadly danger for those around them. In addition to the legal consequences, the offender also lost the car itself and the chance to continue her trip, so this case may serve as a warning for those who think the speed limit can be ignored.
