Test Drive of the Only 1955 Ford Thunderbird in Ukraine

You are unlikely to encounter this car just walking around the city. Even in its homeland, the USA, you would need to go to an exhibition to see and touch such a specimen. Despite the fact that we live in Ukraine, we have a rare opportunity to ride the 1955 Ford Thunderbird. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDW8x8uDv_A

We also recommend checking out the test of the charged Ford Focus ST and the video review of the pocket rocket Ford Fiesta ST. Now let’s talk about the details and delve into history.

The Thunderbird became one of the first representatives of the American auto industry to be nicknamed a “muscle car” (Muscle car – muscular automobile). To fit into this category, the car had to meet several requirements: coupe or roadster body, large powerful engine, bright appearance, and high dynamic performance. Everything else was at the discretion of the manufacturer. By the way, no one ever thought about handling. Accordingly, it is better not to try to compete in slalom on the Thunderbird.

And in general, it is better to try to take turns at the minimum speed. Our specimen belongs to the first series of the “Thunderbird” family and is equipped with a V8 engine with a capacity of 4.8 liters. The power is modest – only 198 hp – but for those years it was quite good. Paired with the engine is a 3-speed automatic transmission. With it, the car can reach a top speed of 210 kilometers per hour.

But to perform such a feat in Ukraine, you need to have an extra set of steel nerves. After all, the concept of a “highway” in our country is 99.9% absent. As for the equipment, even modern cars might dream of some points. There is electric seat adjustment, ignition lock lighting, cruise control, and so on and so forth. Now you can buy such a car.

True, if you have an extra 100 thousand dollars.
