Bi-Led lenses for cars: comparative test of Koito Original and Aozoom AMS (video) en

Cars, like most of what surrounds us, are the result of the evolution of humanity and its inventions. Automotive lighting technology is no exception. This applies to both the headlights installed on mass-produced cars and aftermarket lights, especially when it comes to LED (or LED) bulbs.

In Ukraine, you can even find quite recent car models (especially those imported from the USA) equipped with ancient halogens. Instead of beautiful bright light, their owners see a yellow-orange spot of unclear shape in the dark. Moreover, the outdated halogen headlights do not add to the car’s appearance, let alone the safety of nighttime driving on our unlit roads. And here arises the question – how to make the headlights more effective and, at the same time, impressive?

Advantages of Bi-Led lenses

  • High brightness
  • Focuses a sharp light beam
  • Compact module sizes (facilitates installation)
  • Longer lifespan compared to xenon
  • Visually make the car more attractive and modern

Bi-Led lenses Koito

The so-called Bi-Led lenses for cars significantly enhance light brightness threefold, with a significantly larger illuminated area and a much sharper light beam. As for Koito, this brand’s LED optics modules are installed on cars like Lexus and Toyota.

In the case of bi-led Koito Original: if the lux meter reading of a halogen fluctuates between zero and one, the result for LED headlights with Bi-Led lenses stays at three. Such test results come from the specialists of the Vapila store, where you can buy Bi-Led and all possible components for enhancing car lighting.

All measurements were taken at a distance of approximately 40 meters in the brightest spot. But even here, things are not as great as you’d like. The light temperature is 6000 units, which means that the light is quite cold. Because of this, in rain and fog, visibility will decrease to the extent that even a weak halogen bulb would be more effective due to its warm temperature. So, it looks nice from the outside, but in gloomy weather, the effectiveness is weak. That’s why you should always (!) look at the light temperature when choosing LED lamps.

Bi-Led lenses Aozoom

The Chinese brand Aozoom is relatively young but not unpromising despite its age. In our review, we took a specific model – bi-led lenses AMS Z7 (Aozoom A7+). The price for the set is approximately $225. The price tag is substantial, but only a real test showed if this cost is justified.

The brightness on the lux meter of Aozoom bi-led lenses ranges from 6 to 7 units, which is twice as bright as Koito lenses. The illuminated area is even larger. Both curbs and the entire road fall into the light zone. The upper edge is sharp, with a blue line to prevent blinding oncoming drivers. This last point is very significant as it is important for mutual respect among road users.

Conclusion

If we talk about Bi-Led lenses for cars in general, today they are one of the most effective and at the same time affordable technologies. They are incomparably better than xenon, but as the comparative test showed, brand or price does not always guarantee high efficiency and visual effect. Therefore, when choosing lighting equipment or even just lamps, it’s better to look at tests, read reviews, or consult specialists who have spent a lot of time and effort to visually find the optimal options in terms of price, quality, and efficiency.
