Sales of the Hyundai Santa Cruz in Canada have sharply declined due to delays linked to trade restrictions. A batch of vehicles intended for the Canadian market is stuck at the border with the United States because of new tariffs introduced by the administration of the former U.S. President.

After the U.S. introduced 25-percent tariffs on automobile imports, Canada responded with similar measures. As stated by Hyundai Canada’s director, Stu Flamen:
We had already ordered the production of a batch for Canada, so these vehicles are just waiting at the border. We will make a decision on further actions soon.
The updated version of the Santa Cruz, introduced a year ago, received a refreshed design, a new multimedia system, and additional features such as a fingerprint scanner. In Canada, the model is only available with a 2.5L turbocharged engine, whereas in the U.S., a naturally aspirated version is also offered.
It is still unclear how Hyundai will resolve this issue, but the company has promised not to delay supplies for dealers and customers. The situation could affect not only sales but also consumer trust in the brand in the region, especially if the delays persist.
