What you need to know about TruCam and police speed control

As it is known, the Patrol Police of Ukraine returned speed control on Ukrainian roads from October 8, and from October 15 violators began to be fined. Only on the first day, TruCam radars helped identify and fine 231 speed limit violators.

Let us remind you that the fine for speeding in Ukraine by 20 km/h or more is 255 hryvnias, and by 50 km/h or more it is 510 hryvnias. This punishment has long been intended to be toughened, but the Verkhovna Rada has not yet adopted the necessary bill.

The National Police has already published a map showing the locations of patrols with TruCams – there are currently 23 such posts across Ukraine. As the number of radars increases, the map will be updated. This means that the police will not hide with radars in the bushes.

Moreover, the first deputy head of the Patrol Police Department Oleksii Biloshitsky conducted a brief lecture for drivers on Facebook and debunked a number of popular myths.

According to him, TruCam radars were certified back in 2012. All documentation is valid, and recertification is not needed. However, calibration should be carried out once a year, and all devices used by the National Police have already undergone this.

Oleksii Biloshitsky also admitted that previously traffic inspectors themselves adjusted the distance correction factor, which could affect measurement accuracy. However, now the new TruCam software limits this capability, and the device determines the distance itself.

Previously, the National Police reported that the radars would operate in autonomous mode, all information in them is protected by encryption, and memory cards are sealed.
