Many workshops can restore and upgrade old Defenders, typically installing a modern V8 and a new gearbox. However, Heldeburg chose a more complex path. Instead of completely replacing the original 300Tdi turbodiesel, the company retained it and refined it, increasing power by 42%. This preserves the mechanical character that makes the old Defender desirable.
According to the company, a Texas rancher originally ordered the Lange for use on his land. He operated it for several years before moving to a larger Defender 130 from Helderburg, so the original is now up for sale. The asking price is $348,720.
Technical and exterior updates
In addition to the engine upgrade, the company installed a new braking system, modern power-assisted steering, 4×4 differential locks, and a new suspension with improved shock absorbers and anti-roll bars. This promises to enhance highway stability while retaining all the off-road qualities expected from a Defender.
The exterior is finished in Oak Green Metallic and is reported to be in immaculate condition. Helderburg also added a matte black external safety cage. Interior and capacity
The interior is also far from the original state of this Defender. In addition to a modern infotainment system, it features a new three-spoke steering wheel with a wooden rim and is trimmed in a stunning combination of black and brown quilted leather. With bench seats in the third row, the vehicle can accommodate up to eight people.
