First Tests of the Electric BMW iX7
German automaker BMW has for the first time shown test photos of its future electric SUV, the iX7, which was undergoing testing on German roads. The debut of the electric version of the next-generation X7 is expected to take place in 2027.
Differences of the Electric Version
Although the conventional next-generation X7 will have a hybrid powertrain with a V8 engine, the electric iX7 prototype is easily distinguishable by the absence of exhaust pipes and characteristic engine noise. Photographers note that even during rapid acceleration, the car remained almost silent.
Our photo specialists confirm that the prototype remained almost silent even under hard acceleration, confirming its fully electric nature
Technological Features
The new model will inherit the Neue Klasse design, already introduced on the iX3, but will retain traditional exterior elements, including the large kidney grille and two-level lighting. This is because the target audience for the X7 is more conservative compared to buyers of smaller models.
Technical innovations will include the latest cylindrical battery cells, which provide 20% greater energy density and allow for an increased driving range. An 800-volt system will enable fast charging.
Power and Specifications
The base iX7 version will receive dual electric motors with a power of around 463 hp, while top modifications could exceed 800 hp. The possibility of creating a version from the Alpina tuning atelier is also being discussed, which could get an additional 100 hp over the standard power.
The electric SUV’s driving range is expected to be impressive – a battery with a capacity of over 110 kWh could provide competitive figures for long journeys. This is especially important for a large family car that must combine comfort, space, and practicality.
The arrival of the BMW iX7 marks an important step in the brand’s strategy for electrifying large SUVs. This model is intended to fill the niche between existing electric models and traditional SUVs, offering clients who need space and comfort a modern alternative with zero emissions. Market development conditions indicate that this very segment could become one of the most promising for premium brands in the coming years.
