New Mustang Price
The base version of the Mustang Dark Horse SC starts from $108,485 including all fees. The special Track Pack Special Edition costs nearly $176,000. The car is equipped with a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine, the power of which exceeds 700 horsepower.
Plans and Reality
Initially, the Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC was positioned as an affordable alternative to the exclusive Mustang GTD, the price of which exceeds $325,000. However, the final prices confirmed by the company show that even the base version of this car costs over one hundred thousand dollars. With full equipment, the price approaches $180,000.
Detailed Price Breakdown
According to the information, the Dark Horse SC Coupe in the base configuration costs $103,490. The version with the Track Pack will cost $139,990. The most complete Track Pack Special Edition configuration has a price of $170,970. To these amounts, it is necessary to add a “gas guzzler” tax of $3000 and a destination charge of $1995. Thus, the final cost of the base model is $108,485, the version with Track Pack – $144,985, and the top configuration – $175,965.
Comparison with Other Models
This amount is significantly different from the cost of the base version of the Mustang Ecoboost, which costs $34,635, although both models share technical solutions. The regular naturally aspirated Dark Horse now looks like a bargain: its base price is $64,080, and including delivery – $66,075, as it is not subject to the additional tax. However, its power is significantly lower than that of the SC version.
Technical Features
The Dark Horse SC is equipped with a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine, the power of which, according to a Ford representative, “significantly exceeds” 700 hp. This is much more than the 500 hp of the standard Dark Horse with a 5.0-liter V8 engine. This engine is closely related to the 815-horsepower unit installed in the Mustang GTD.
Among other technical solutions borrowed from the GTD development program are carbon-ceramic brakes, an improved suspension, next-generation magnetorheological dampers, and a sports steering wheel. The Track Pack includes additional options such as carbon fiber wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, and aerodynamic improvements that provide about 620 pounds of downforce at 180 mph.
Market Competition
It is interesting to compare the SC with the Chevrolet Corvette, which was undoubtedly considered by Ford when setting prices. The base Corvette Z06 1LZ version costs $122,795 including delivery and taxes, but has only 655 hp. The 1064 hp ZR1 model costs $187,495, and its 1250 hp ZR1X modification – $212,195.
Depending on the configuration, the Mustang Dark Horse SC also falls into the Porsche price segment. The base Porsche 911 Coupe starts from $135,500, and the 911 Carrera 4S from $164,500. On the market, you can still find remaining units of the 718 Cayman model, although it is no longer available for order.
Ford’s pricing policy for the Dark Horse SC raises many questions. On the one hand, the car offers unique technical characteristics and power that bring it closer to supercars. On the other hand, a cost of over $100,000 for a car with the Mustang brand may seem excessive to some buyers. A regular Dark Horse with an additional $10,000 supercharger kit, which provides 810 hp, could become an alternative for those looking for high performance for less money. The final decision will depend on how ready the market is to accept a Mustang in the premium segment and whether its technical advantages justify such a price.
