Notably, the very first SSC Tuatara was bought by a well-known American pediatric dentist, businessman, and philanthropist Larry Caplin, according to Autoblog. The car cost him $1.6 million.

In Larry Caplin’s garage, there is an SSC Ultimate Aero (which also once set a speed record) and that is why he was offered to purchase the new model, but with the condition that his car would be used in the record-breaking run.

In general, Larry Caplin actively exploits supercars: he has driven a Lamborghini for 178,000 km, and a Ford GT for 90,000 km. However, he has not accelerated either of his two SSCs to speeds over 400 km/h.

Now, the doctor plans to use the SSC Tuatara record for charitable purposes. Since the official record was 316 mph (508 km/h), Larry Caplin launched an initiative to raise $316,000 for his children’s charity fund, the CF Charities Foundation.
