Electric vehicles are usually updated once every 6-10 years, but the Chinese market is developing much faster. Just three years after its debut, the MG4 has received a full second-generation update. These are not just minor changes – the model has received a new platform, a redesigned exterior, an updated interior, and most importantly, a semi-solid-state battery.
The price starts from 73,800 yuan (approximately $10,300), making the MG4 one of the most affordable electric vehicles in its segment. The semi-solid-state battery from QingTao Energy contains only 5% liquid electrolyte, which is less than its competitors. Its energy density is 180 Wh/kg, and the driving range is up to 537 km.
Specifications and Trim Levels
In addition to the semi-solid-state battery, conventional batteries with a capacity of 42.8 kWh (range – 437 km) and 53.9 kWh (530 km) are available. The model has become slightly larger: length – 4,395 mm, width – 1,842 mm, height – 1,551 mm, and wheelbase – 2,750 mm.
The interior features a 15.6-inch multimedia screen, a digital instrument panel, wireless charging, and a panoramic roof. Options include ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel, and adjustable rear seatbacks.

Pre-orders are already open, but exact delivery dates are not yet known. The second-generation MG4 is expected to appear on the European and Australian markets, although specific dates have not yet been announced.
The updated MG4 demonstrates how rapidly the electric vehicle market is developing in China. The use of new technologies, such as semi-solid-state batteries, in affordable models could change perceptions of what modern electric cars should be like. It is worth noting that even in the base trim, the car offers a level of comfort that was previously available only in premium segments.
