Audi electric sedan for $45,000 promises 506 miles of range in China

New electric Audi sedan for China

Audi continues to expand its lineup for the Chinese market, introducing the new A6L e-tron model. This electric sedan with an extended wheelbase recently debuted at the Auto China show in Beijing and boasts several interesting features.

Increased wheelbase and spacious interior

Manufactured by the Audi FAW joint venture, the car features a wheelbase extended by 5.2 inches (132 mm). This provides a spacious rear seat row with impressive legroom befitting flagship models.

Powerful battery and significant range

Audi engineers did not stop at just increasing space. They used the extra volume to install a larger battery with a capacity of 107 kWh on most versions of the car. This allows the model to offer a range of up to 506 miles (815 km) under the CLTC cycle.

Trim levels and performance

The A6L e-tron will be offered in Long and Extended Range variants. Some, and possibly all versions, will be equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing 543 hp (405 kW / 551 PS) and 574 lb-ft (779 Nm) of torque. This allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.3 seconds. Thanks to the 800-volt architecture, charging the battery from 10% to 80% takes only 21 minutes.

Design and aerodynamics

In terms of design, the A6L e-tron features longer rear doors and a less pronounced roofline. Despite the changes, the model has an impressively low drag coefficient of 0.22.

Interior and features

The car’s interior also remains recognizable. The driver sees an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch infotainment system, and a 10.9-inch display for the front passenger. These are complemented by two 7-inch screens for the digital side mirrors.

Options and prices

Among the additional options, Audi mentions sports seats with heating, ventilation, and a massage function. Buyers can also order a darkened panoramic glass roof and a premium Bang & Olufsen audio system with 20 speakers. Prices start from ¥309,800 ($45,317) and reach ¥439,800 ($64,333) for the top-tier version.

Thus, the Audi A6L e-tron is another step by the German manufacturer in the fight for the Chinese premium electric vehicle market. The combination of significantly increased rear passenger space, immense range, and high performance makes it a serious competitor for models such as the Mercedes-Benz EQE and BMW i5, which are also offered in long-wheelbase versions for China. It is worth noting that the price, while substantial, is still lower than the cost of the flagship Audi A8, making the A6L e-tron an attractive alternative for those seeking maximum space and technology at a more accessible price.
