Classic That Inspires
The legendary Mercedes-Benz 190E EVO II has been getting a lot of attention in recent years — mainly thanks to the restomod by HWA and a separate version from the Italian company Vespera Automobili. Now one designer has imagined what the Mercedes G-Wagen would look like if it were given a body kit inspired by the iconic sedan.
The Mercedes G-Class has long been one of the favorite models at expensive tuning studios. The reason is simple: wealthy owners are willing to spend large sums on modifications. Usually such upgrades involve wide body packages or off-road changes, but we have never seen such a radical approach before.
Concept by Abimelec Design
The author of the project, Abimelec Design, combined the G-Wagen with the 190E EVO II. First of all, he lowered the SUV’s ground clearance, so the car sits just a few centimeters from the asphalt. From the legendary sedan, the front bumper and splitter were borrowed, fitting well with the classic round headlights.
Widened wheel arches were also added at the front and rear, along with extended side skirts. The six-spoke wheels resemble those on the original EVO II, and a large rear spoiler appeared on the roof. Other changes include a new tailgate, bumper, and a chrome exhaust tip.
Will We See It on the Roads?
Over the years, we have seen plenty of amazing projects based on the G-Class, but such a non-standard one is a first. That does not mean such a car will never appear in the flesh. Installing a similar body kit on a G-Wagen will not be cheap, but it is quite realistic. Harder would be convincing the owner to give up all off-road capability for the sake of a low stance.
Such renders often remain purely digital concepts, but they show how versatile the G-Class’s image is. Interest in the 190E EVO II is fueling a wave of retro mods, so it is not out of the question that some tuner will dare to bring this aesthetic to an SUV. The main question is whether a customer will be willing to sacrifice practicality for such a spectacular style.
