Bugatti has reclaimed the title of the world’s fastest car manufacturer. The hypercar Bugatti Chiron has set a new speed record. On the test track in Ehra-Lessien, Germany, a specially prepared Bugatti Chiron coupe reached 490.37 km/h, which is 43.3 km/h more than the previous record set by the Koenigsegg Agera RS (447 km/h). The car was driven by pilot Andy Wallace.
However, it should be noted that the Bugatti Chiron underwent significant modifications to achieve such speed. Its ground clearance was reduced, the rear part was extended by 25 cm, and the retractable wing was removed. Also, the exhaust system from the newest Bugatti Centodieci is visible.
A safety cage was installed inside.
From the Centodieci, it borrowed a more powerful 1600-horsepower version of the 8.0-liter W16.Of course, the differences from the production Bugatti Chiron are quite significant, which is a reason not to officially acknowledge the record. However, Bugatti hinted that we are essentially looking at the new Bugatti Chiron Super Sport, which will be released in a limited series.
