This outgoing year has been very rich in exclusive cars in Ukraine. And this BMW can be considered as the bold period of the year 2021. It is a unique Alpina B10 Biturbo based on the BMW 5 Series in the E34 body. This particular example has the serial number 73 (out of 507 produced).

This model was produced from 1989 to 1994 and is considered collectible. It is hard to imagine how much it cost to purchase and legalize such a car in Ukraine, but it can definitely be said that it is one of the rarest BMWs in our country. To emphasize – it was brought to us from Japan, which is not particularly surprising. After all, over the past couple of years very cool youngtimers are being brought from Japan to Ukraine, including special Mercedes W124 from the nineties.

Alpina B10 Biturbo E34 is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine with two (!) turbos. Let’s recall, we are talking about a 90s car! The car’s power is 360 hp, the maximum speed is 290 km/h. It’s no surprise that this Alpina is rightly considered one of the fastest sedans of the nineties.

Only five different versions of Alpina were released in this body:
- B10 3.5/1
- B10 Biturbo
- B10 3.0 All-Wheel-Drive
- B10 4.0
- B10 4.6

Few people know, but Alpina worked on this modification for 2 (!) years, and investments in its creation amounted to 3.2 million dollars. However, such time and financial investments are justified – to this day the B10 Biturbo engine is considered one of the best turbocharged units in automotive history.

As TopGir writes, citing BMW guide, the biturbo Alpina features a new camshaft, stronger pistons, valves, and springs. The fuel system is Bosch Motronic M3.3. Compression ratio is 7.2:1. Turbos – Garrett T25, hidden so deeply by the Bavarian engineers that you can’t see them, even if the car is on a lift. But they are there, located behind the large intercooler.

The turbos allow the B10 to accelerate so briskly that the passengers in the cabin are literally pressed into the seats. The torque is 552 Nm. By the way, during a sharp start Alpina B10 Biturbo noticeably squats on the rear axle and can skid even in the third gear. To avoid this, Alpina engineers installed the ASC system (Automatic Stability Control) with the ability to disable it.

The gearbox is a 5-speed Alpina (Getrag 280/5), plus a locking differential and Bilstein shock absorbers (also engraved with Alpina). The ventilated brakes with ABS deserve special attention. The front ones are Alpina-made – perforated discs 334 mm with 4-piston calipers, and the rear brakes are from BMW M5. Having accelerated on the highway to a maximum of 290 km/h, this car can decelerate as quickly as BMW circuit racers do in competition. By the way, the car weighs 1695 kg, and acceleration to a hundred takes only 5 seconds!

Perhaps the only disadvantage of this car is its fuel consumption – about 20 liters in city conditions. Understanding the good appetite of their creation, Alpina increased the fuel tank volume from the standard 80 liters to 119. By default, all B10s were “shod” in Michelin MXX 235/45 ZR 17 tires in the front and 265/40 ZR 17 in the rear.

The interior is also changed, but not drastically: anatomical seats with Alpina branded stitching, gear lever knob with the studio’s label, and door sills with Alpina overlays.
The speedometer is marked up to 320 km/h (the M5 is marked up to 300) and has the Alpina logo. The instrument panel contains indicators for oil pressure and temperature. It also provides information on boost pressure, which can be adjusted with a discreet device located at the base of the central console.

And the concluding words from the famous journalist and racer Paul Frère. About the Alpina B10 he said the following:
What does this car mean to me? I believe – it is the best car in the world!
In the 90s, the price of the Alpina B10 Biturbo E34 was 152.500 DM. As for current prices, in the USA in 2020 a similar car was auctioned for nearly 70,000 dollars, while in Europe (if you are lucky to find one), you can buy such an Alpina in the 34th body for 40-100 thousand euros. The production of the Alpina B10 Bi-Turbo ended in 1994. A total of 507 cars were produced, most of which are currently located in Europe and Japan. But since 2021, one of these unique “Bavarians” is also in Ukraine.
By the way, if you’re not aware, in 2017 two rare BMW Alpinas were found in a deplorable state in Ukraine.
