“Considering the dynamics of electric vehicle purchases, which Ukrainians have demonstrated more than once, this is not the best figure in recent years,” says Oleksandr Kravtsov, CEO of ElectroCars. “Compared to 2018, passenger electric vehicles have increased by a third. In terms of demand for electric cars, we are somewhere between Portugal and Spain.

I think after March this year, we will drop out of the top ten countries with the most intensive electric vehicle growth. The main reason is the lack of incentives to switch to innovative transport.”

The most popular electric vehicle in Ukraine is still the Nissan Leaf: 3217 of these hatchbacks were registered in 2019. The second place has been consistently held by the Tesla Model S — Ukrainians bought 623 of them. In third place is the Volkswagen e-Golf, chosen by 360 Ukrainians. Rounding out the top 5 are the BMW i3 and Fiat 500e.

“If compared with popular models in EU countries, there the ‘top five’ most popular electric vehicles look somewhat different than ours. For example, leading there is the most affordable Tesla Model 3, in second place is the Renault Zoe, in third is the electric VW Golf, followed by the Nissan Leaf and BMW i3,” says the company leader. Sales of commercial electric vehicles increased one and a half times during 2019. The top three leaders in this segment are: Renault Kangoo Z.E., Nissan e-NV200, and Peugeot Partner Electric. The average age of these vehicles is 6 years.

“The average age of passenger electric vehicles is 4 years. In general, mostly used electric cars from the USA and EU countries are sold in Ukraine. Such make up 92%,” explains Oleksandr Kravtsov.
