In Ukraine, the auto recording of traffic violations has finally started operating. As of June 1, there are 20 cameras in Kyiv and 25 in the Kyiv region. For now, they only record speed violations, and quite a few violators have already been caught. 
According to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Arsen Avakov, in just 8 minutes of operation, the system caught 262 violators. By the way, photo recording cameras in Ukraine give drivers an extra edge, as due to the features of the construction, they perceive speed exceeding not by 20, but by 23 km/h.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Anton Gerashchenko reported that the first one caught at 00:01 was an Audi Q7, driving at 75 km/h on Chokolovskyi Boulevard. Its owner will soon receive a “happiness letter” with a QR code to view the video from the camera. The fine for speeding in Ukraine is 255-510 hryvnias. If paid within the first 10 days, there is a 50% discount. The decision can be contested in court.
The “happiness letter” is sent to the owner of the car. If someone else was driving, they can come to the police and report it. In the driver’s electronic cabinet, the appropriate user of the vehicle can be entered.
