Only One Type of Car Evokes Disgust in Formula 1 Champion Verstappen — And It’s Probably in Your Garage

Max Verstappen Criticizes Front-Wheel Drive Cars

Max Verstappen, one of the strongest drivers in modern Formula 1, is known for his mastery behind the wheel. However, there is one type of car he has never liked — front-wheel drive. He grew up driving karts and rear-wheel drive race cars, so his opinion on FWD is quite categorical.

In a new video with journalist Chris Harris, Verstappen did not mince words:

“No, no, I find it really boring. For me, it’s simply anti-driving”.

He also added that even in a simulator, front-wheel drive cars are “the worst thing possible”.

Verstappen’s Connection with Honda

Interestingly, Verstappen himself previously drove a Honda Civic Type R — one of the best front-wheel drive models. Furthermore, Honda was the engine supplier for his Red Bull team in Formula 1. However, it seems the upcoming collaboration with Ford, starting next year, has changed his views.

In the video, Verstappen first rides as a passenger in a classic Mustang and then gets the opportunity to drive the new Mustang GTD. His enthusiasm for rear-wheel drive cars in this video is hard to miss.

Although many car enthusiasts will agree with Verstappen about the advantages of rear-wheel drive, front-wheel drive cars still have their supporters. This is especially true for models like the Civic Type R, which have proven that FWD can be fast and exciting. However, for a driver accustomed to the precision of rear-wheel drive dynamics, such cars remain far from ideal.
