The current generation of the Toyota Corolla has been offered since 2018. It is still a reliable car, but its age is already noticeable – replacement is not far off. A fresh teaser from within Toyota itself hints that the next generation will be very similar to the concept the company showed at the end of last year.
Documentary series lifts the curtain
A recent documentary series produced by Toyota and NHK in Japan goes behind the scenes: it shows company management and the process of creating new models. During one of the shots, Toyota employees sit in a presentation hall, and a completely new Corolla appears on the screen.

Design of the future model
Unfortunately, the finished design remains hidden – the cars in the video are blurred. However, we got a pretty good preview of the long, streamlined sedan shape, which closely resembles the Corolla concept from October.
Like the concept, the production Corolla will have a sharp front end, but the most dramatic feature could be the side lines. At the base of the front side windows, they are not horizontal but run diagonally down the door panel – exactly like on the concept.
Concept meets reality
Similarly, the doors themselves may transition: the production car shows the same lines along the lower part of the body, which end in a triangle. The rear roofline is also close to the concept – it extends far back, resembling a crossover more than a traditional three-box sedan.
Powertrains and versions
Although Toyota is not yet ready to show the new Corolla to the world, it has confirmed that the model will be offered with a range of different powertrains: hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and even a fully electric version. Also, most likely, a new generation of the ‘charged’ GR version will appear.
Body style options
Whether the all-new Corolla will also be sold as a hatchback remains unknown. It is also unclear whether the sedan we saw in the teaser and at the concept will be the only available body type.
Everything points to the new generation Corolla radically changing the model’s familiar image: besides an updated platform and a wide range of electrified powertrains, the car will receive a bolder design, closer to crossover shapes. This change could be Toyota’s response to the growing demand for a more spacious and modern compact car capable of competing not only with traditional sedans but also with young electric competitors.
