Mask Removed: Mercedes Unveils Its Most Impressive Electric Crossover

Mercedes Shows New GLC with Illuminated Grille

Mercedes-Benz has released the first image of the new electric GLC without camouflage. The photo reveals a retro-futuristic radiator grille with illumination, reminiscent of the brand’s classic models. The official premiere of the electric crossover will take place in September at the IAA motor show in Munich.

Despite the fact that electric vehicles do not need large radiators, the new GLC has received a bright chromed grille with a smoked glass effect. For an additional charge, an illumination package with 942 LEDs can be ordered, which animate when the driver approaches. This solution is intended to make the model stand out against competitors such as the BMW iX3 and Porsche Macan Electric.

A New Face for the Brand

“Our new iconic grille is not just an update for the GLC, but a new face for the entire brand,” stated Mercedes design chief Gordon Wagener.

The company plans to use similar design solutions on other models to counter the influx of Chinese manufacturers. The first version of the new GLC will be the 400 4Matic with EQ technology, which will be able to charge for 260 km in 10 minutes thanks to support for fast charging over 320 kW.

Mercedes has recently faced criticism for the overly conservative design of its electric models, so the new GLC is intended to become a brighter representative of the lineup. At the same time, the company maintains a balance between tradition and innovation, which is particularly noticeable in details such as the illumination of the three-pointed star.
