At the Kyiv Art Week festival, a unique designer BMW was presented

As part of the fourth international contemporary art festival Kyiv Art Week, BMW Ukraine presented the ART INSPIRED BY THE 8 project, developed by specially invited artist, Max Shkinder.

Inspired by the forms of the all-new THE 8, the joint development by BMW Ukraine, the young Ukrainian artist, and Kyiv Art Week became a logical continuation of the corporation’s activities in supporting contemporary art, as one of the priority areas of development for decades.

The extraordinary art object, which became the centerpiece of the exhibition, was created based on the BMW M850i xDrive, which emits a unique aura of refined yet sporty style, whose main traits are clarity, modernity, and emotion. The characteristic for the brand front grille, executed in a new interpretation and reflecting a single massive hexagonal element, served as the basis and inspiration for the author of the work. The result was an absolute synergy of car design and the work of art, giving the new THE 8 in the M Performance version an incredibly expressive appearance.

The artist for the development of the ART INSPIRED BY THE 8 project was chosen by a board of professional curators of Kyiv Art Week and the management of BMW Ukraine, through a tender among pre-selected candidates, according to artistic heritage and proposed ideas.

“I am used to presenting myself as a designer during the day, but at night – I am an artist. Each of these sides exists independently and, at the same time, they complement each other. Perhaps this is the secret to the harmonious combination of the created pattern and the forms of the new THE 8. The drawing’s structure is based on the characteristic shape of the BMW grille. This design detail is a key feature of all generations of the brand and represents the DNA of the brand.

Moreover, it reflects the number eight, as the model’s name, which contains the infinity sign – a symbol of the iconic model’s rebirth. With prolonged viewing of the ring segments of the illustration, the viewer can see hints of future shapes and contours of one of the key elements of this German car’s image” – the chief artist of the ART INSPIRED BY THE 8 project, Max Shkinder.
