The Zaporizhzhia Automobile Plant is returning to the production of passenger cars. This was announced today by the corporation “UkrAuto”, which owns the enterprise. As it is known, in Zaporizhzhia, the production of passenger cars stopped back in 2016, and since then, only commercial models and buses have been assembled.
As expected, ZAZ will produce Groupe Renault cars for the local Ukrainian market. “UkrAuto” believes that this will be a sign of the revival of the automotive industry in Ukraine.
Before the start, the AutoZAZ production was modernized to meet Groupe Renault’s quality standards. The “Alliance Production Way” system was implemented at the enterprise. Chairman of the Board of ZAZ, Nikolay Evdokimenko, stated: “We are proud to implement this project, which will create new jobs and contribute to the development of the domestic automotive industry. Localized assembly allows us to stay close to our customers and adapt our offer and service to market needs.”
Managing Director of Groupe Renault Export in the Eurasia region, Max Missana, emphasized: “The Ukrainian market has high potential for us, thanks to its location and growing interest in new cars. Groupe Renault has a strong position in Ukraine and maintains its market leadership.
This project means that we and our partners are confident that the ‘Made in Ukraine’ brands will be at the same level of quality as the products of other Groupe Renault plants.”
It is not yet reported what the new ZAZs will be. Most likely, Lada cars – Vesta, Largus, and XRay – will be assembled in Zaporizhzhia. It should be noted, AvtoVAZ is also part of Groupe Renault, and a trial batch of these cars was previously produced at the enterprise. It seems that this way they will try to bypass the restrictions on the import of Russian cars. It was also previously reported that the Renault Arkana crossover could be produced at ZAZ.
The car is distinguished by an elegant design with a sloping roofline, and it is equipped with components from the Duster.
