The Newest Audi SQ9 Prepares to Challenge BMW X7 and Mercedes GLS

The flagship crossover Audi SQ9 has been spotted during testing in Europe and may debut next year.

The model resembles a redesigned Q7 but has a longer wheelbase and a unique rear appearance.

It may ride on the Premium Platform Combustion and feature a 4.0-liter multi-point turbocharged V8 engine.

Audi is working on a three-row crossover, and photographers caught a glimpse of the upcoming S version. This is a performance-focused variant likely to compete with higher versions of the BMW X7 and Mercedes GLS.

During testing in Europe, the prototype features a large grille surrounded by split headlights. They are complemented by a wide lower intake that almost spans the entire width of the vehicle.

Looking at it from the back, we see rounded but general body details. Designers also gave the model a spacious interior and door handles in a style that are on a raised vertical line of the beltline. Additionally, there are large wheels and a relatively flat roof.

The rear isn’t particularly interesting, but it features four exhaust pipes along with a small diffuser. They are accompanied by wide reflectors, a modest spoiler, and what appears to be boomerang-shaped taillights.

Unfortunately, the model closely resembles the Q7, making it difficult to distinguish them. However, a closer look reveals various differences, including longer rear doors and a more spacious third side window. Moreover, the Q7 has a notch for the license plate on the rear fender, whereas in the Q9 it’s located on the rear bumper. This is a barely noticeable difference, but hopefully, more significant changes are hidden under the camouflage.

Audi still keeps the model under wraps, but it’s not ruled out that it will be based on the Premium Platform Combustion and feature a 4.0-liter multi-point turbocharged V8 engine in the S version. Hybrid variants and a price tag that matches its flagship status can also be expected.
