Simplified versions of cars will begin production in Russia. In light of sanctions and the shortage of crucial auto components, it was decided to ease the technical regulations of the Eurasian Union ‘On the safety of wheeled vehicles’. The new rules come into effect on April 25.
Each EAEU member country defines specific requirements for cars separately. It is expected that Russian car manufacturers will be allowed to lower the engine’s environmental class (even down to Euro-0) and produce cars without the GLONASS navigation system, ABS, ESP, and airbags.

It is precisely the components for these systems that are in shortage following the sanctions. In general, welcome back to the 90s. Are carburetors not coming back?
Notably, AvtoVAZ began preparing for the production of such outdated models even before the technical regulation relaxations. By summer, “stripped-down” Lada Granta and Niva Legend of Euro-2 standard will appear, and by autumn, Vesta will join them.
Kamaz also plans to transition to smoky engines without modern injection and exhaust gas cleaning systems. It is quite possible that KamAZ-740 engines, created back in the 70s, will be used.
A special note will be made in the technical passport of such simplified cars. Initially, their sale will be allowed only in the domestic Russian market, but export to EAEU countries is possible in case of signing relevant bilateral agreements.
