Automotive markets in different countries often demonstrate unexpected trends in buyer choices. Research conducted by analyst Felipe Munoz identified the most popular car models in each country for 2024. While global rankings are often led by familiar models, local markets have their own unexpected leaders.

Unexpected Sales Leaders

Among the most interesting discoveries of the research is the Porsche 911 model, which became the most popular car in Andorra. This vividly reflects the high income level in this small country located between France and Spain. Despite Andorra’s area being only 181 square miles and its population about 82 thousand people, Porsche managed to sell 83 units of the 911 model.

Second place was taken by Toyota, but not a regular model, rather the powerful GR Yaris, while the Porsche Cayenne and Macan completed the top four leaders.

Geography of Automotive Preferences

In different regions of the world, buyer preferences differ significantly. For example, in Aruba the most popular model is the Kia Rio, in Australia – the Ford Ranger pickup, and in Romania – the Dacia Logan. The Toyota Hilux dominates in many countries, including Bolivia, Cameroon, Chile, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guinea, and Iraq. This model demonstrates an extremely wide geography of popularity.

Electric Vehicles and Regional Features

The research data also shows the growing popularity of electric vehicles. In China, the BYD Qin became the most popular model, while in Denmark and Norway, known for their affinity for electric vehicles, the Tesla Model Y emerged as the sales leader. In the Middle East, preference is given to large SUVs: the Nissan Patrol tops the rankings in the UAE, while the Land Cruiser 300 leads in Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and Kuwait.

Less Known but Popular Models

Among other interesting discoveries is the popularity of models that may be unknown globally. For example, the compact Geely Coolray crossover became the most popular car in Belarus, while in Angola the sales leader is the Jetour X70. In Iran, the most popular model turned out to be the Sapia Quik, in Côte d’Ivoire – the Suzuki Dzire, and in Malaysia last year the first place was taken by the Perodua Bezza.

Interestingly, some models demonstrate stable popularity over many years, while others suddenly appear in the rankings, indicating dynamic changes in automotive markets. The diversity of cultural, economic, and geographical factors continues to shape unique automotive landscapes in each country, making the global automotive market extremely diverse and interesting to observe.
