Nissan Murano transforms into the R35 GT-R among SUVs

The first model of Nissan Murano was used as a base for an SUV inspired by the GT-R. The exterior kit replicates the style of the R35 generation, including the original headlights. This modification is evidently the result of a big Godzilla fan and was spotted in Malaysia. Although Nissan may have its challenges, the sports car still enjoys loyal fans worldwide. One particularly enthusiastic fan from Malaysia approached the matter from a new angle, creating a “GT-R” based on the Murano, combining the aggressive R35 design with the practicality of an SUV.

You might call it “Murano GT-R.” This unique model has roots in the first-generation Murano, although you might barely recognize it. A significant amount of styling modifications clearly shows that this is more than just a conversion. From the photos, one can say that only the upper body parts and pillars were transferred from the original Murano — an impressive achievement demonstrating how much effort was put into this transformation. The front and rear designs have been completely reworked, inspired by the distinctive lines of the R35 model. The grille and front bumper intakes resemble those from the model’s second update, which debuted in 2016, while the headlights and taillights seem to come from the previous model.

The rear was extended to accommodate dual spoilers. However, given the gaps between the panels, it seems that the rear compartment no longer opens, so the only way to access the cargo area appears to be from inside the cabin. The unique SUV appeared on the Facebook page of K1 Racing, based in Bandar Baru Bangi, Malaysia. Videos on the page show a special exhaust system with square pipes, giving the Murano a sound reminiscent of the GT-R. Unfortunately, the posts do not provide any details about the vehicle’s technical specifications, so we remain unaware of what actually powers this model.

Regarding context, the first Murano model was released in 2002, sharing a platform with the third-generation Altima and the sixth-generation Maxima sedans. Under the hood was a muffled version of the naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 engine from the 350Z, producing 245 horsepower (183 kW / 249 PS). In comparison, the more powerful twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 engine in the GT-R develops between 473 hp (353 kW / 480 PS) to 600 hp (447 kW / 608 PS), depending on the model year and variant. Whether you liked this project or not — we cannot deny the creativity and skills spent on bringing it to life. We will be closely watching for photos of the completed model, hoping they will appear on social networks soon.

Until then, enjoy the sound of this “Godzilla meets SUV” hybrid.
