Volkswagen’s new Jetta budget model looks like one of the most popular electric cars in the world

New Jetta M6 Electric Car: Budget Sedan Inspired by Tesla

The Chinese brand Jetta, owned by the Volkswagen Group, is preparing to launch its first fully electric sedan. The new model is called the Jetta M6 and, judging by the released images, its designers drew inspiration from one of the world’s most popular electric cars.

According to information released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the front end of the Jetta M6 closely resembles the Tesla Model 3. Narrow, angular headlights with an aggressive shape and the central part of the front bumper, lacking a traditional radiator grille, create a striking similarity.

The new Jetta M6 will feature an electric motor with power ranging from 118 kW.

The front part of the M6 greatly resembles the Tesla Model 3.

Under the sedan’s body will be CALB lithium-ion batteries.

Design and Dimensions

Overall, the exterior design of the car looks quite restrained, especially compared to other Chinese electric vehicles. The charging port is located on the front right fender, the door handles are designed as ‘flaps’, and there are prominent stampings on the doors that add a touch of individuality to the car.

The rear of the car is executed in a typical style: a darkened lower bumper section, thin LED taillights, and an LED strip connecting them. According to MIIT data, the M6 is 4806 mm long, varies in width up to 1895 mm depending on the trim, is 1500 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2820 mm. The curb weight of the car will range from 1557 to 1628 kg.

Technical Specifications

The Jetta M6 is not a sports electric car with enormous power. It will be offered with only one electric motor. The base version will produce 152 hp (113 kW), while the top version will deliver 194 hp (145 kW). Information about the battery capacity is not yet available, but it is known to be a lithium-ion pack with cells from CALB, which will be produced as part of the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture.

Future Plans

Earlier this year, Jetta announced plans to launch five new models by 2028, four of which will be vehicles using new energy sources (BEV or PHEV). The next model from the brand is expected to be the production version of the Jetta X concept SUV.

Thus, the Jetta M6 is positioned as an affordable electric car for the Chinese market. Despite the obvious design borrowings, it offers practical dimensions and moderate technical characteristics, making it an attractive option for the mass consumer. The brand’s strategy aimed at electrifying its lineup demonstrates Jetta’s serious intentions to compete in this rapidly growing segment, especially given the plans to release several more new energy-efficient models in the coming years. This will allow the company to strengthen its position in a market where the demand for affordable electric vehicles continues to grow.
