It is well known that the Lexus LS is the most luxurious sedan and the flagship of Japanese Toyota. But there is another sedan in the model range that looks much more modest but is more expensive than the Lexus. We are talking about the Toyota Century 2019, which is produced for the domestic market. Indeed, even in Japan, buying this model is not easy, as it is, in a sense, the Rolls-Royce of Japan.
If previously, the Century was intended only for the imperial court, today anyone can become the owner of a new Toyota Century 2019. The only problem is that the production is limited to 50 copies per month, making the car scarce. This sedan is not sold outside Japan.
It’s curious to note that the Toyota Century has been produced for almost half a century, but the 2019 model is only the third generation of the imperial sedan. So, what is noteworthy and exclusive about the latest generation model?
Let’s start with the fact that the new Century surpasses the extended Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7 in terms of size! The length of the Toyota Century is 5335 mm, and it is almost 2 meters wide. Externally, the car is perceived as classic and not as flashy as the Lexus LS.
The interior of the Toyota Century 2019 is as modest as its exterior. Moreover, the front part lacks such familiar (for modern cars) details as a touchscreen.
In this sedan, as before, there are a lot of buttons, and the instruments on the panel are analog. Yes, just like in grandpa’s Lada. However, in the middle, there is a full-fledged information display.
Among the “modernities,” you can also see a multimedia screen, which, by the way, reads compact discs! Well, it’s not cassette tapes — that’s already good.
And now let’s move to the back row. Here it is quite clear that the owner will be seated in the rear. For him and his companion, there are two displays — an 11.6-inch and a 7-inch touchscreen. The latter allows controlling the audio system, massage chairs, curtains, etc.

For convenience, there are also seat heating/ventilation, a footrest, and folding tables. By default, the seats of the Toyota Century are upholstered in natural… wool! But the customer can choose natural leather.
The technical specifications of the Century 2019 indicate that the flagship Toyota of the new generation received a platform from the previous generation Lexus LS. The same goes for the power unit. For the first time in history, the imperial sedan has not received a 12-cylinder engine but a hybrid unit (from the Lexus LS 600h), consisting of a 5-liter V8 and an electric motor with a total power of 431 horsepower. Despite the technical equipment from the hybrid Lexus, the new Century is rear-wheel-drive. This is a tribute to history.
Where and how is the Century produced? As before, the car is virtually hand-assembled at the Higashi-Fuji plant, and the emblem of the exclusive sedan is made by specially trained craftsmen who cast it over 6 weeks!
It’s also worth mentioning that the body of the Toyota Century is painted in 7 layers and polished by hand. And yes, the color palette includes only four shades, none of which have metal flake. The price of the Toyota Century 2019 starts at $180,000!
