Test prototypes of the new generation BMW X5 have repeatedly been caught by photographers’ lenses, but only now it has been possible to discern the interior details. Although most of the interior is hidden by black fabric, it is visible that the model will receive a revolutionary panoramic display instead of a traditional dashboard.
The new information display system stretches across the entire front and consists of three sections. The driver will get a digital instrument cluster, as well as additional zones for widgets – from navigation to engine power indicators.
Technology and Design
The steering wheel has a two-tone finish and tactile buttons that will replace the classic iDrive controller. The central screen of the multimedia system, hidden under a protective casing, will have a non-standard angular shape. The system will run on the X OS with enhanced personalization capabilities and an improved voice assistant.
The model’s exterior is inspired by the Neue Klasse X concept – this applies to both the radiator grille and the light clusters. Some prototypes feature sporty accents, such as an exhaust system with four pipes, which may indicate an M60i version.
BMW has not yet revealed all the details, but the model is expected to receive an updated CLAR platform with elements of the Neue Klasse.
The manufacturer is preparing a wide range of powertrains, including hydrogen and electric options. A rumor about an iX5 REx with an additional generator, promising a range of about 1000 km, is of particular interest.
Although the official presentation is still ahead, it is already clear that BMW is betting on innovative technologies and bold design. The features of the new multimedia system may become a trend for the brand’s future models, and the variety of powertrains will allow it to meet the needs of different categories of buyers.
