New G-Wagon transformed into a retro SUV from the late 60s (photo)

This is how a brutal G-Wagon looks, but in the attire of the 60s. In reality, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has long become more of a status symbol than an exceptionally capable off-roader for off-road use. But how would it look if it were launched in production in 1969 instead of 1979?

To answer this question, Abimelec Design created a classic G-Class that has no military roots but was developed as an SUV for wealthy consumers with a focus on luxury. The result turned out to be very interesting.

The overall shape of the 1969 G-Class is similar to today’s thanks to its square shape, which has become timeless. However, the front of the classic G has very little in common with the current one and draws inspiration from the classic Mercedes-Benz 600 Grosser with a large front chrome grille and four headlights with chrome outlines. The front bumper of the G is also chrome.

Several other design details are fitting for a car from the late 1960s, including chrome mirrors and door handles, and the wheels were taken from the Mercedes-Benz 280. And while this is just a fantasy, at least one such similar retro G-Wagon exists in the real world!
