by Japanese tuning atelier Damd, known for its bold styling solutions for the Suzuki Jimny, has introduced a new accessory. Unlike previous works that often imitated other famous SUVs, this part pays homage to previous generations of the Jimny itself.
New accessory for Suzuki Jimny
The trim piece called Slash Garnish creates a visual effect of a split rear window, reminiscent of the silhouette of soft tops from previous versions. This small addition dramatically changes the car’s appearance, adding retro charm.
The diagonal strip attaches directly to the rear side window, visually dividing it into two parts. Although rear seat passengers lose some visibility, the car gains a much more distinctive profile.
Variants and prices
Buyers can choose the trim in an unpainted version or in one of three colors: Medium Gray, Jungle Green, and Chiffon Ivory Metallic. An optional wooden panel is also available, which adds vintage warmth and pairs with Damd’s wooden roof basket, creating a cohesive look.
To enhance the optical illusion, the tuners painted the roof and rear pillars in a different color. This makes the rear part of the roof resemble a hardtop, evoking nostalgia for the Jimny convertible. Of course, the Slash Garnish can be combined with the retro styling kit, as shown on the prototype.
Compatibility and cost
The Slash Garnish trim is compatible with the narrow Jimny (kei-class) and the global version Jimny Sierra, but does not fit the five-door Jimny Nomade due to the different shape of the rear body.
In Japan, the accessory costs ¥52,800 ($330), an additional ¥33,000 ($200) for painting, and ¥6,600 ($40) for delivery. The wooden panel costs another ¥24,530 ($150), so a full set totals ¥116,930 ($720) without installation costs.
This project demonstrates how a small detail can significantly affect the perception of a car, evoking nostalgia for past generations. Damd once again proves that even without a factory version with a soft top, a convincing visual alternative can be created. This approach allows Jimny owners to personalize their cars without resorting to radical changes and highlights the flexibility of this compact SUV’s platform. It is worth noting that the price of the accessory is relatively affordable, making it an attractive option for those looking to refresh their car’s appearance without significant expense.
