New AMG CLA electric car shows red brake calipers ahead of specifications

Mercedes-AMG unveils new electric CLA: first details

Mercedes-AMG has released a teaser of a high-performance sedan that will debut tomorrow at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The manufacturer is not yet revealing many details, but promises that this model is built for true adrenaline enthusiasts.

Exterior design and features

Although the darkened teaser image does not reveal many details, a slight brightness adjustment confirms that we are seeing the CLA model. Details are hard to make out, but light wheels and red brake calipers are noticeable. There is also a badge on the front wing and sportier side sills.

The manufacturer remains silent, but spy photographers have repeatedly captured this high-performance sedan. In addition to the mentioned changes, the car features a more aggressive front bumper and an active rear spoiler. A sportier rear bumper is also expected, which will help distinguish the AMG version from the standard model.

Interior and technology

Changes to the cabin are likely to be minor but will include sport seats and an AMG steering wheel. Special trims and upholstery are also expected. These will be joined by a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch infotainment system, and a 14-inch front passenger display.

Powertrain and performance

Full details will be revealed tomorrow, but preliminary reports suggest the car could feature up to three axial-flux electric motors from Mercedes’ subsidiary, Yasa. If the rumors prove true, their combined output could exceed 500 hp (373 kW / 507 PS).

This would be a significant improvement over the CLA 350 4MATIC with EQ Technology. It has an 85 kWh battery pack powering a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing 349 hp (260 kW / 354 PS) and 380 lb-ft (515 Nm) of torque. This allows the model to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in approximately 4.8 seconds, reach a top speed of 130 mph (209 km/h), and have an EPA range of 312 miles (502 km).

Mercedes-AMG CLA EV with red calipers

The new electric AMG CLA will be an important step for Mercedes in the high-performance electric vehicle segment. The use of Yasa’s axial-flux motor technology could deliver not only significant power but also compactness and efficiency. This will allow it to compete with models such as the Tesla Model 3 Performance or BMW i4 M50, offering a unique driving experience focused on dynamics and handling. The official presentation at Goodwood is expected to reveal precise specifications, pricing, and the start of sales, marking a significant event for the premium EV market.
