New Compact AMG EV: Three Motors and Unique Technology

New Electric AMG CLA 45 Reveals Its Secrets

High-performance electric vehicles are no longer just for top-tier models with six-figure prices. AMG is preparing a more compact and affordable option with high performance.

The new product will be the electric CLA 45 with EQ technology, which will feature an active rear spoiler. It was previously thought to be fixed, but it has now been revealed that the system automatically raises at speed or can be controlled by the driver.

Personally, I preferred the idea of a fixed spoiler, but the ability to retract it to reduce drag is important for efficiency.

Technological Features

The model will receive lightweight and compact Yasa motors, which are already used in other Mercedes electric vehicles. Three motors will provide precise traction control. Despite a modest-for-an-EV output of 500 hp, high torque and low weight could make the CLA 45 EQ competitive.

The standard CLA versions already feature 800-volt fast charging, but do not yet support 400-volt stations. It is expected that this issue will be resolved by the launch of the AMG version. The range is expected to be around 400 miles.

The combination of a long range, powerful acceleration, a drift mode, and simulated V8 sound could make this model one of the most interesting for enthusiasts. Market launch is expected as early as next year. This shows how priorities are changing even in the high-performance segment, where efficiency is beginning to go hand in hand with dynamics.
