In Germany, the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class W223 was presented. The seventh generation of the luxury sedan will go on sale from early 2021. As always, the S-Class amazed with an array of new technologies.
Design of the 2021 Mercedes S-Class
The new Mercedes S-Class looks more elegant – with smoother body shapes. It has a wide radiator grille and slanted headlights with matrix LED optics. The door handles are now retractable.
The sedan is built on a new platform.
The short version has grown to 5179 mm in length with a wheelbase of 3106 mm, and the long version – to 5289 mm and 3216 mm, respectively. It is also the most aerodynamic production car: its drag coefficient is 0.22.
Interior of the 2021 Mercedes S-Class
The interior features a new layout of the dashboard. The virtual instrument cluster and touchscreen are separated, and the touch display is large, like in a Tesla (12.8 inches). Inside, there are much fewer buttons, and the steering wheel has touch panels.
By the way, the instrument panel has 3D graphics, and the head-up display now comes with augmented reality. The multimedia system recognizes voice and gestures (and even recognizes the owner’s voice) and can also connect with the owner’s smart bracelet.
The seats come with massage, featuring 10 different programs.
The cabin has become more spacious, and the trunk volume has increased to 550 liters. There is now an airbag between the front seats and front airbags for rear passengers. In a year, the Mercedes S-Class will receive an advanced autopilot.
Specifications of the 2021 Mercedes S-Class
The engines of the Mercedes S-Class W223 are supplemented with a 48-volt hybrid system. Initially, there will be 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engines with 367 and 435 hp, a 496-hp 4.0-liter V8, and 3.0-liter turbo diesels with 286 and 330 hp.
Also announced is a 500-hp plug-in hybrid with an electric range of 100 km. Versions from AMG will appear later, but the top V12 will remain only with the luxurious Maybach variant.
The Mercedes S-Class received an all-wheel steering chassis and a new generation air suspension with road-scanning capability.
