The Yue 7 model marks the first serious attempt by the Trumpchi brand to enter the segment of rugged SUVs. The exterior design relies heavily on familiar off-road traits, and each version of the new model is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system.
From bland to stylish: the evolution of design
The first generation of models from the Trumpchi brand, which belongs to GAC, was bland, unremarkable, and outdated. However, the Chinese company has put considerable effort in since then. Now the brand creates cars that can compete, even if it is not always obvious at first glance. The Yue 7 is the latest offering, briefly previewed at the Beijing Auto Show and now fully revealed.
A new role in the lineup
The current lineup includes sedans, crossovers, and minivans, but the Yue 7 plays by different rules. It is Trumpchi’s first true SUV, similar to the Toyota Land Cruiser or Land Rover Defender. Such vehicles must live up to the image, and GAC has succeeded, partly because many design cues were borrowed.
Exterior details
Images from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) show the Yue 7 with a darkened front bumper, a black grille, and prominent headlights and daytime running lights. The SUV’s wheel arches are correspondingly massive, as are the door handles and side steps. The images also show the Yue 7 with several different wheel designs, including a bead-lock-inspired style and black spokes.
Rear end and dimensions
At the rear, the SUV features a spare tire carrier, while the taillights are relatively simple but suit the vehicle well, as does the black bumper.
Technical specifications and dimensions
According to documents, the length of the Trumpchi Yue 7 ranges from 4,999 mm (196.8 inches) to 5,045 mm (198.6 inches) depending on the trim, the width is up to 2,030 mm (79.9 inches), and the height is 1,933 mm (76.1 inches). The wheelbase is 2,900 mm (114.1 inches), and the curb weight reaches 2,330 kg (5,136 lbs). This places it at roughly the same exterior size level as the Defender 110, although the wheelbase is slightly shorter.
Powertrain
Every version uses the same plug-in hybrid system. It consists of a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 167 hp (125 kW), an electric motor, and a battery pack with a capacity of 28.3 kWh or 45.9 kWh. The combined output is not yet known, but the Yue 7 will reportedly have an electric-only range of up to 117 miles (188 km).
Thus, the GAC Trumpchi Yue 7 becomes a direct competitor to models such as the Tank 300 or the BYD Leopard 5, offering buyers a combination of classic off-road style and modern hybrid technology. Although the design may seem somewhat derivative, the technical specifications and dimensions make it a serious player in a rapidly growing market. It remains to be seen whether the brand can offer a competitive price to attract buyers looking for an alternative to better-known but more expensive models.
