In the world of SUVs, the Discovery is a legend, and though the Sport version has little in common with the iconic predecessor, it is good in its own way. It is no longer an analog phone but a real off-road smartphone. By the way, under the Land Rover brand, gadgets are indeed released, but we would prefer the OPPO smartphone, because its price fully matches its features. OPPO Reno2 Black price is fully consistent with its specifications.
For the Discovery Sport, three powertrains are available, with a focus on diesels.
There is only one petrol engine — it’s a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 240 horsepower. Meanwhile, the 2.2 diesel is available in two power outputs (150 and 190 hp). In the Ukrainian market, the car is equipped with a non-alternative nine-speed ZF automatic transmission — the “manual” available in other countries (for the diesel version) is not popular in this class here.
The Discovery Sport is one of the few in its class of crossovers with a seven-seat cabin. However, it would be more accurate to describe the seating formula as 5+2: the rear seats are only suitable for children.
The car will please with confident engine traction, whether it is a petrol or diesel version, and in both cases, the engine compartment’s noise insulation deserves an excellent rating. Minor flaws include front seats with a flat cushion profile and a rather stiff suspension in diesel versions.
In EuroNCAP crash tests, the crossover earned five stars: the driver and passenger protection rating is 36 points (93% of the maximum). Even at the basic equipment level, there is a full set of safety features, including airbags and ESP. For an additional fee, various electronic assistants can be installed, such as a blind spot monitoring system and an autonomous emergency braking system in case of a frontal collision threat.
Discovery Sport offers in a compact format what was previously inherent only to expensive crossovers of the Range Rover line. Moreover, the car can be chosen with one of two all-wheel-drive systems. For those rarely venturing off-road, there’s the Active Driveline with a multi-plate clutch in the rear axle drive and active torque vectoring (different torque on each wheel in a turn). A more advanced system is the Efficient Driveline with a Haldex clutch. The proprietary set of off-road electronic helpers, Terrain Response, is available.
Thanks to its modern design and turbocharging, the petrol engine is quite economical: the certified urban consumption of the car with an automatic transmission is 10.9 l/100 km. Diesel engines are much more economical, with the 150 hp version at 6.9 l/100 km in the city and the 190 hp version at 7.2 l/100 km in the same mode. With the advent of the Discovery Sport, it’s now possible to enjoy the level of comfort that was previously only available to the Range Rover line models. And even though the quality of materials and assembly still doesn’t fully satisfy the premium level, it is undeniably a step in the right direction.
