Original Genesis Crossover Receives Hybrid Update

Genesis is actively working on a new hybrid version of its popular GV70 crossover. The latest spy photos, taken on the Nürburgring track, show a prototype with a more aggressive design and a powerful hybrid powertrain.

Updated Design and Technical Features

The new GV70 Hybrid will receive significant exterior changes. The most noticeable detail is the new radiator grille, reminiscent of the one used in the updated G80 and GV80 models. It features a thicker and more distinctive diamond mesh pattern. The front bumper is likely borrowed from sport versions, though camouflage hides some details. At the top are split headlight units.

The sporty character is emphasized by lightweight alloy wheels and a braking system with red calipers. A hidden dual exhaust system is also noticeable. The rear bumper will likely be modified before serial production begins.

Interior and Technology

Although the prototype is equipped with Recaro sport seats and a roll cage, the production version will focus on luxury. The interior is carefully camouflaged, so exact changes are currently unknown. It is expected that the current 27-inch display may give way to a new Pleos Connect infotainment system adapted for the Genesis brand.

Powertrain

Details about the powertrain are still limited. However, Hyundai Motor Group recently introduced a hybrid system for the Palisade and Telluride models. It combines a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with a 1.65 kWh battery and a six-speed automatic transmission with integrated electric motors. This setup produces 329 hp (245 kW) and 459 Nm of torque.

Likely, a similar powertrain will appear in the GV70, but possibly with more power. For comparison, the current model offers a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine with 300 hp and a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 with 375 hp.

Thus, the new Genesis GV70 Hybrid should become not only more economical but also more powerful than the standard versions. The design and technology updates will likely make it one of the most attractive options in its segment. Market launch is expected next year, allowing the brand to compete with models such as the Lexus RX Hybrid and BMW X3 xDrive30e.
