A bizarre and dangerous incident unfolded when locals discovered nearly 500 nails scattered across public streets within a one-mile radius. Fortunately, no accidents were reported, though a few unlucky residents ended up with punctured tires.
around 2 a.m. on April 18. Before that, the nails had been deliberately installed spike-up, creating makeshift spike strips on several roads. This structure poses an obvious threat to public safety, as a tire blowout at speed could easily lead to a serious accident.
The horrifying discovery spread. After surveying the area, police found even more nails intentionally placed on private property, including residential driveways. In one alarming case, nails were placed under the wheels of a parked pickup truck. Fortunately, police were able to collect them before more damage was done.
According to the Falmouth Police Department, officers collected a total of 478 nails with the help of the Department of Public Works. Additionally, residents joined in, gathering additional nails from their driveways and sidewalks using magnets, which, frankly, sounds like the least exciting neighborhood scavenger hunt.
Not everyone got off easy. Resident Cindy Collings ended up with a repair bill after finding two nails stuck in one of her car’s tires. Still, the city caught a break, as there were no reports of casualties or injuries related to the sabotage, suggesting most nails were removed before causing serious harm.
Police are now urging residents to check for video recordings and provide information. With no clear motivation or specific targets, authorities suspect the act may have been a reckless prank, likely by teenagers. They hope those responsible will be held accountable and acknowledge the serious dangers their actions pose to the community.
