Buying a car or renting – that’s the question

Many people cannot imagine their lives without a car. However, as it is known, a car is quite a controversial investment, considering the risks, depreciation, and cost of its operation as such. So, is it worth buying a car, or is it better and more profitable to rent one? Certainly, buying a car has its advantages, just as renting does. Therefore, let’s try to weigh all the pros and cons to answer this not-so-simple question.

Moreover, there are taxis and alternative transport options available too.

Taxi

Taxi is convenient and justified if you rarely need personal transport and/or do not want to think about whether you should have a mug of beer or a glass of wine on the way home. If you live in a city and often rely on public transportation, using taxi services is certainly justified. However, if living out of town, such expenses can be burdensome.

Car-sharing

This relatively fresh phenomenon for the local consumer has its advantages when you need a car, not a driver with a car, and for a short time, right here and now.

However, if the car is needed for half a day, for example, this is not the best option.

Car Rental

Using a car rental makes sense if you have temporarily gone to another city or, say, you don’t want to think about the maintenance and upkeep of a car, in general. Another case where it is not only advantageous but necessary is when a force majeure occurs, such as a car breakdown or (knock on wood) your car gets into an accident. In any of these cases, it makes sense to rent a car for a day, a week, or even a month, to avoid spending on taxis and not being cramped in a minibus. Another important aspect – renting a car in a big city.

Indeed, car rental in Kyiv is undoubtedly more reasonable and explainable than renting in, for instance, Zhytomyr, where it’s easier and cheaper to take a taxi. Lastly, what makes rental profitable is the transfer and the ability to take a car in the capital, drive to Kyiv, and return it in Lviv, which is offered, for example, by the company RACE.

Buying a Car

In Europe and the USA, young people are increasingly abandoning car purchases, considering it unreasonable. In fact, there is common sense in this, since immediately after leaving the showroom the car depreciates, and also requires care and funds for maintenance, not to mention costly repairs. However, there are people who still believe that a car, like a wife, should always be nearby and should be yours alone.

Who is right is a rhetorical question. But if you have something to say – write in the comments…
